Andrew HurleyAndrew Hurley graduated from MoDDD in 2017. Currently, he is a World Bank consultant in their Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience unit, providing operational support and technical leadership to the bank’s Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management programs across the East Asia & Pacific portfolios. “I am currently in Yangon working with the Yangon City Development Committee and the Engineering Department (Buildings) of the South East Asia Disaster Risk Management Project. Yangon is in ‘moderately high’ seismic zone as consequently one of the main focuses of the projects is to improve the structural performance of public buildings in earthquake events. I am working closely with the EDB team to help prepare the relevant documentation to enable the commencement of the seismic retrofitting of 20 public buildings in downtown Yangon.” Regarding the MoDDD degree, Andrew says, “the flexibility and support network to cater to those juggling study and work makes this course a great option for anyone looking to build a career in the exciting and challenging disaster and development sectors.”
